DoD and Movers Work Together to Improve Military Moves
As the military's peak moving season continues, the Department of Defense (DoD) is working more closely with the moving industry to improve the Permanent Change of Station (PCS) experience for service members and their families. New initiatives are helping streamline communication, improve customer service, and strengthen partnerships with household goods carriers.
One of the biggest changes is the continued expansion of the DoD's Personal Property Activity (PPA), which now serves as a central resource for military families experiencing problems during their move. Since launching last year, the PPA has handled more than 20,000 calls and emails, providing service members with direct access to assistance and helping resolve issues more quickly.
Industry leaders report that communication between the DoD and moving companies has improved significantly. Moving companies have responded by dedicating experienced drivers, crews, and resources to support the busy summer PCS season. Service members are also being encouraged to schedule their moves as early as possible, helping spread demand over a longer period and reducing last-minute scheduling challenges.
The DoD has also launched a new online resource through the Personal Property Activity, offering step-by-step guidance, moving checklists, claims information, and educational resources to help military families better prepare for their relocation.
For New Jersey movers that participate in military relocations, these changes highlight the continued importance of quality service, communication, and professionalism. Strong partnerships between government agencies and the moving industry play a critical role in ensuring military families receive the reliable service they deserve.
