New Jersey Warehouse & Movers Association
Prior to 1969, the moving industry was unregulated in New Jersey and there were no laws or regulations to prevent unprofessional or unethical business practices. There was no Internet search to check the reputation of the company a consumer was considering. In 1969 legislators passed the ‘Public Movers Act’ which required all movers to be licensed, obtain minimum insurance, and register with the State.
There were still many reputable companies who decided to do more to eliminate the number of unethical movers and regain consumers’ trust. A group of individuals from established moving companies across the State banded together and formed the New Jersey Warehouse & Movers Association. They set ethical guidelines based on honesty, safety, and compliance with regulations that all movers must accept if they wished to join the association. Today, the NJWMA website has become the most trusted source for consumers to research licensed movers in their area.
NJWMA pre-qualifies all mover members to verify their license and insurance is current and ensure there are no outstanding judgments or unresolved complaints with the Division of Consumer Affairs. The majority of NJWMA movers are family owned and operated, hire local workers, and offer support to the communities they serve. They participate in many community programs that encourage benevolent work such as collecting and delivering food for Move for Hunger and delivering wreaths at Christmas time for Wreaths Across America.
You can be sure the members listed here are licensed, reputable and professional that can responsibly handle all your moving needs. Our unbiased approach of not recommending one company over another provides you with accurate information you can trust and gives you the tools you need to educate yourself with things like links to government websites, or videos on avoiding scams, understanding estimates, and shipment protection.
The Officers and Directors of NJWMA are key employees or owners of local moving & storage companies who volunteer their time to provide direction and support. All past and present board members have been instrumental in elevating this association’s credentials to the highly respected level of recognition we now enjoy from State and Federal regulators.
