5 Tips for a Smooth Transition for Seniors Planning a Move

Sometimes, I can’t believe I am a senior myself.  We all hope to reach that stage in our lives.  At that point, you begin to rely on help with some tasks.  Well, moving is a big deal no matter what your age is.  Hopefully, you will find this helpful in preparing for your relocation.

1.  Ask your friends for a recommendation of a moving company. The experience of others can help point you in the right direction or steer you away from a problem.

2.   At this point, you have already visited the NJWMA website.  The New Jersey Warehouse and Movers Association has vetted all its members.  By choosing a mover member, you can rest assured they * Meet a Strict Code of Ethics.

3. Put together a list of your thoughts and questions.  The only stupid question is the one you didn’t ask.  Rely on Your Professional Moving Consultant to answer all your questions and concerns.  This person should also educate you on the do’s and don’ts of moving.

 4.    It’s a good idea to get three visual estimates. (Visual means the mover representative has seen what will be moved by an in-person or virtual visit). You will want to find a mover who offers you a reasonable cost estimate and a company that takes the time to understand your unique needs.  Be sure you are given an easy-to-read and understandable estimate and inventory.

5.    It’s time to select your MOVER.  Do you feel 100% comfortable making this choice?  Don’t sign blank or open-ended documents.  Be leery of a company asking for a large deposit or wiring money.  If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t right.
