PCS Joint Task Force Hosts Industry Day
On August 12, 2025, the Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Joint Task Force convened an Industry Day near Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, bringing together movers, shippers, and logistics providers to help improve the Department of Defense’s Household Goods Relocation Program.
During the event, industry representatives had the opportunity to share their insights, challenges, and innovations directly with Defense Department leaders. The goal was to identify practical solutions to improve timeliness, trust, accountability, and modernization within the program.
Army Major General Lance Curtis, commander of the PCS Joint Task Force, acknowledged the importance of household goods relocation in maintaining morale and operational readiness. He stressed that while the subject may not seem glamorous, it is critical to the force.
Participants focused on four primary problem areas: innovative commercial practices; workforce incentivization; program structure, pricing, and claims; and broader industry ideas. Their feedback was documented to support the Task Force’s upcoming report to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, scheduled for submission by September 5, 2025.
The effort to reform the program reflects Secretary Hegseth’s directive in May to address long-standing issues within the military’s household goods moving process. The Task Force emphasized the need for fair, consistent reform, with clear standards and consequences tied to performance.
Industry representatives were encouraged to propose best practices involving sustainable pricing, integration of modern technology, workforce retention strategies, and peak-season management. MG Curtis invited partners who understand the unique challenges of military family relocations and who would embrace new logistics, supply chain, customer service, and technology solutions.
Those interested in submitting further input were invited to send up to five pages of recommendations by August 18, 2025.
To support service members and their families globally, the PCS Joint Task Force recently launched a 24/7 call center. Accessible via phone at 833-MIL-MOVE (833-645-6683), email at PCSCallCenter@mail.mil, or the PCS Joint Task Force Spotlight webpage, the center assigns trained military personnel to manage relocation cases, provide consistent updates, and resolve issues. This initiative aims to reduce relocation stress and enhance the quality of life for military families as part of broader reforms to the Defense Personal Property Program.
MG Curtis emphasized that, by working collaboratively with industry partners, the Task Force aims to transform the household goods program into a model of efficiency, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
