Army Temporarily Pulls Some GHC Shipments

In a recent development, the U.S. Army has temporarily pulled certain household goods (HHG) shipments from the Global Household Goods Contract (GHC), citing concerns over service performance and readiness. This move, while not a full suspension of the contract, highlights early friction in the transition to the new GHC system under contractor HomeSafe Alliance.

The decision affects a limited number of moves and is meant to ensure military families experience minimal disruptions during the busy moving season. In the interim, these shipments are being reassigned through the legacy Defense Personal Property Program (DP3).

The pause gives both the military and HomeSafe Alliance time to address operational challenges, ranging from shipment tracking to provider readiness and communication gaps with service members.

What It Means for Movers:
If you're a carrier or agent working within the DoD space, this serves as a reminder to stay informed, remain compliant, and be flexible. The GHC remains a long-term vision, but the road to full implementation may have more bumps ahead. Carriers should ensure readiness and maintain communication with TSPs and the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) for any shifts in guidance.

NJWMA will continue to monitor developments and share updates as they unfold.
